STV for BC - Vote Yes!

Wednesday, May 18, 2005

Final (almost ) results

With the vast majority of the votes counted, the 'Yes' vote is sitting at 57.38%, 2.62% or about 40,000 votes short of the required 60%. 77 of the 79 ridings in the province voted in favour (with the 2 Kamloops ridings being the exceptions).

I expect to get irritated with newspaper stories about how voters "turned down" electoral reform in the next few days, hopefully the media will prove my cynicism wrong.

  • Yeah, I found it frustrating more than depressing, but I know what you're saying (imagine how the members of the Citizen's Assembly feel).

I'm glad Campbell seems to be open to keeping the process moving. With the vote splitting on the left for the last two elections he certainly has nothing to gain from a partisan standpoint by pushing electorla reform, so if he backs up his words with actions, I'll certainly give him credit for that.
